THE Halloween party!

Tonight was the party by my friend Super Woman (aka Jackie) and her husband Great American Hero (Brandon).

Haley went as Elphaba and won a prize for the scariest child's costume.

Ruby was Glinda

Lucy was Dorthy

Eric was the wizard and I was from Emerald City. I have been totally sick, but would not have missed this party for anything.

One of these things is not like the other...
I knew there was going to be a pumpkin contest, but we didn't have a pumpkin so we covered a hand ball with candy corn and black licorish.

We ended up winning most creative pumpkin and got this awesome prize.

We all had a great time!
After some serious showers and teeth brushing the kids are all asleep and I'm going there.

Halloween Gingerwood House

We finally decorated our Gingerwood House for Halloween. I think the girls did a pretty good job. In the beginning Lucy ate every candy picked up, but after a while some went on the house.

Look how spooky it looks lit up!

Eric has been making these Gingerwood houses for a local Christmas botique, but If you want one you can purchase the house or the kit here.

Smoke, smoke... smoke

We can't actually see the fires at all, we cant see anything. There is so much smoke everything is gray. Your lungs hurt and your eyes water when you go outside. The kids can't leave their classrooms at school. They have been having recess and lunch in their classrooms. It is really terrable. The worst part for me is seeing all the ash falling and knowing how many homes have been lost, it is very depressing.

***EDIT- Our school district has cancelled school for the rest of the week.

Spooky ghosts

I love Halloween!
I love Halloween decorations.
This is a super easy idea that anyone can do.

I got this idea a couple of years ago from Martha Stewart. I think her ghosts were cut from paper, mine are just cut from muslin with and I used sharpie marker to draw the face. My girls love these ghosts. We even hang them off the back of our van at the trunk or treat party at our church.

Speaking of Halloween.....
We just received an invitation to the most talked about Halloween party in Southern California. My super creative friend Jackie is the only person I know that loves Halloween as much as I do.

She seriously knows how to throw a party like no one else!
You can read a little about last years party here.

Is this not the cutest invitation ever!

I love this quilt!

I just finished this quilt for my friend Nicole's baby due next week and I just LOVE IT!

I love it because it reminds me of when I purchased the fabric (7 years ago) on a fabric field trip with my NOLA friends.

I love it because the vintage fabric makes me happy.

I love it because of who I am giving it to.

Whenever I make a something for someone, I think about that person while I am making it. When I give the gift away it is so much more then fabric and time, it really is my way of showing how much I love and appreciate that person. I can't wait to give it to her!

Show me your flags!!!!!

Only 13 days left until the Nov 1st mail date!

If you have made a flag quilt for the solders (what's this) or are working on one email me a photo and I will continue to add photos. I will have a link on my sidebar so you can see the beautiful quilts the solders will be receiving.

Amanda made this flag and had all the children in her primary sign the back at an activity about service.

You should have seen (in person) these quilts that Barbara made. The fabrics were super cool and her quilting was amazing!

This is the 1st quilt that Autumn in Texas has ever made. So great!

Can you believe that I never took a photo of my quilt after it was quilted and bound? I stole this photo from my step by step tutorial.

This was Ellen's first quilt ever!

General Conference

I tried to have an activity for my girls to watch during General Conference. A friend of mine gave me Conference Bingo sheets so I took the Bingo sheets and a bag of Starburst (bingo chips) to Grandpa and Grandma Browns house to watch Conference. The Bingo thing only lasted for the 1st 30 minutes and they were over it.

I told my girls for ever talk they listened to they could eat a Starburst when the speaker said Amen. It actually worked! Ruby and Lucy snuggled into a big Lazy Boy chair, held and smelled the big bag of Starburst and as soon as someone said amen they both said "AMEN and ate one Starburst". I'm not sure if they learned anything, but they were quiet and happy and entertaining for me to watch.

My favorite talk was given by Elder Dallin H. Oaks where he talked about choices and priorities. I have been struggling very things he talked about and can't wait to read his talk again. The full text is not on line yet, but you can listen to his talk here. It was the Sunday afternoon session.

Movie Night

Every Friday is movie night at out house. We usually have pizza for dinner and then watch a movie with all the snacks and treats normally associated with a movie and of course the girls get to stay up late. It is usually just our family but sometimes we invite friends. Tonight we invited a family that has 3 girls all my girls ages.

Everyone had a buddy which was great. We still had the projector that Eric borrowed (for the presentation in Haley class) so with some bean bags and a big white sheet, Eric turned the garage into a movie theater. I made super sticky carmel corn and my friend brought witches brooms (stick pretzels with fruit roll around the bottom to look like a broom).

When Haley was going to bed she said "Mom, this was the best movie night ever!" I have to agree, it was really fun.

Side note- When we were picking out a movie, Haley wanted Herbie fully loaded, I said No and in my mind thought "No Lindsay Lohan movies, no way!". Guess what we came home with.... a movie called Life-size staring Lindsay Lohan and Tyra Banks! Two people that I could live without.
